Don’t Waste People’s Time

Everyone you deal with is busy, so keep it simple.
- Set a time limit when you interrupt someone’s workday, and stop when your time’s up.
- Only contact editors or journalists if you have a solid pitch that fits with the kind of story they cover.
- Before phoning someone, figure out the key point you want to make. If you get their voice mail, identify yourself, make that point, leave your number, and hang up.
Payoff: Your respect for people’s time gains their trust.

Same thing going double for bloggers. Remember bloggers aren’t PR pros. I would also suggest e-mailing bloggers first. For most bloggers it isn’t their day job so calling might be at their work or home. Also remember TIME ZONES. Be absolutely sure of the time zone of the person you are calling.
For work at home types like me, getting a call at 6:30 AM or late in the evening just makes me NOT want to listen to you and two of your three strikes are gone in one fell swoop.
