iTunes Sends Me a Message - Bum Rush the Charts Aftermath
Okay, I did my bit on Thursday and downloaded Black Lab’s song Mine Again, as part of Bum Rush the Charts.
In my small way, I stuck it to The Man, by showing that big corporations don’t control everything in the music industry.
I guess Steve Jobs heard my shout in the wilderness, because he sent me a message:

Number of iTunes songs I’ve downloaded, 2005 to March 21, 2007: 0
Number of songs downloaded on March 22: 2
Number of times iTunes has accused me of illegally moving those songs onto my iPod: 2
Amount of money I’m likely to spend at iTunes in the next two years: $0
The value of being accused of theft by vendors: Priceless.

There’s some kind of a lesson here…but damned if I can figure it out. I’ll bet it’s that technology is smarter than we are…right?

Hey, I’m used to being accused of “performing an illegal operation,” as Windows would explain to me for crashing.
Research shows that once you consider yourself a criminal, you stop obeying the rules. Are Microsoft and Apple breeding a generation of pirates and thieves through a concentrated program of criminalizing the population through behaviour modification?
