Yet another PR Blog Portal - MindValley’s PR Voices
I like to take a look around the PR blogs and see what’s worth reading. The problem is, I don’t have 2 hours a day to zap through everything that’s either directly or indirectly related to PR.
MindValley has launched PRVoices, an algorhythm-driven site that pulls together headlines and openings of the more notable PR-related posts of the day, with links back to the original posts.
In an interview, MindValley’s Vishen Lakhiani and Mike Reining say they’re planning to roll out 1,000 post-ranking sites, each targeted at a niche topic.
I haven’t seen enough of MindValley’s Social Rank algorhythm in action to decide if this will be a regular source of news and opinions for me.
I have to admit they have good taste in bloggers, though. They included me in their shortlist of first PR bloggers they approached, asking for my top 12 recommendations. I was happy to comply, and not necessarily with the usual well-established bloggers. I’m more interested in energy, intellectual vigor and a strong point of view than a blog that churns out factoids and conference chatter.
I’m hoping PR Voices can point me to more of that kind of public-relations related blog posts.
See my post about earlier variations on the blog portal theme.

I like the trend, but it spells extinction for my blog.
I don’t fit any pre-defined niche, but rather gaps between niches.
I’ll never be PR-enough for the PR people, not marketing enough for the marketers, and not Social Media enough for the S&M crowd.

Ike, I don’t think you have anything to fear. I think algorithms will get smarter very soon. For example, pretty soon, your posts on SocialMedia might be sent to SocialMedia aggregators like NewMediaSignal.com. And PR posts would get sent to PRVoices.com.
Another trend would be to categorize your posts into categories like Social Media, PR, Marketing and then offer RSS feeds for these categories. This way, both users and aggregator sites like PRVoices and read the feed that’s relevent to them.

Vishen:
I like the idea of having several feeds for specific content, and a feed for all posts. That way, people or aggregators can just pull the content they want to receive, and if you want them to know there’s other stuff available, you can seed your posts with occasional references to content in your other stream, so people know to come to the blog and see what they’re missing.
As a reader, I want to narrow the focus sometimes. But other times I want the whole shebang, because I like the writing and ideas, whether or not they fit in a narrow niche.
Ike: Don’t change your blog to serve search engines and portal sites. I think you’re doing great with the mix of writing that you do now. Wouldn’t want to see it narrowed to just a specific topic area.
