Flame Wars: No One Can Take My Wooden Box Drums Away from Me

by Eric Eggertson on October 12th, 2007

A well-placed insult can be a thing of beauty on the Internet, where random acts of rudeness happen every day.

On the other hand, name calling and one-upmanship has that dog fight/car crash feel to it that lacks the grace of an elegant flame war.

wooden box drum - cajon - courtesy KotzIf you haven’t checked out the comments on a recent post here, you’ve missed the latest schoolyard tussle, in which names were called, but no one got their nose broken.

My favorite part of the exchange was checking the correct definition of "cajones", to make sure I’d correctly understood whether or not my lack of said objects rendered me any less manly. It turns out cajones doesn’t mean testicles (that’s cojones). The correct translation is "drawers," or "wooden box drums."

I quickly shifted from indignation to concern that anyone would think I was without wooden box drums.

You can take away my dignity, but don’t take away them drums.
